Susan and Blue

Susan_Blue1.jpg (109754 bytes)Blue originated from Michigan, and her first name was Sally.  Her original owners were a couple of college kids who kept her in a crate for the first year of her life.  When they finished school, they decided that they could no longer keep her.  They gave her to a professor there.  The professor and his family renamed her Blue (for Blue’s Clues) and she resided with them for six months.  She had a wonderful 4-year old boy who loved her dearly, but she received little to no exercise and had very little yard to play in.  Therefore, Blue had some behavior issues that they grew tired of dealing with.

Mom found out that she was pregnant with baby #2 and realized that Blue was too much for them to handle.  The family signed on to the Weimaraner Listserve (WeimList), “advertising” that they had a dog that they had to give up.  We e-mailed privately and the family brought Blue to us for a two-week trial period.  I knew from the moment I agreed to the trial period, that Blue was going to be a permanent member of our family.  I also knew, from experience with my other Weim (Graycee), that Blue’s behavior issues were due to lack of attention and exercise.

Susan_Blue2.jpg (74876 bytes)Blue fit in with our family immediately.  She and Graycee had some issues to work out with regard to the pecking order, but it only took them a few days to sort things out amongst themselves.  Blue is our gentle giant and she has found her forever home with us.  She is so loving and so eager to please.  Most of her behavior issues have disappeared in the 4 months she has been with us, but we’re still working on socialization.  Outside of her safety-net (the yard), she gets very nervous and protective.  She has been a wonderful addition to our family and she will have our love till the end of her days.
