Wyatt's Ruff Rescues-first a poem and then his story
Now, here is a story of a boy named Wyatt
He had a message and couldn't be quiet
Started at just nine years old
Had a big heart and was quite bold
Wyatt took his first ten dollar bill
He had a big idea and lots of will
Went to the shelter and got that first pup
With a whole lot of wishing and a little bit of luck
He took that little doggie home
and gave him lots of lovin' and a big, juicy bone
Made him healthy and made him well
And looked for a place for him to dwell
Wyatt could not really understand
Why nobody wanted this dog at hand
So he looked and he looked and finally found
A new home for this beautiful hound
Well, that was how this story got it's start
This boy is a blessing, along with being smart
For two years, now, he has given his all
To help find homes for many dogs, big and small
Wyatt, we are so very proud of you
For making these rescues really come true
And for helping these poor, unloved ones
Finding them their last, loving homes
We love you !!!
My name is Lynn and I am such a lover of animals, especially Weimaraners. I had two, wonderful gray girls- Mama Cassie and Shyanne and was looking for another Weim. I am disabled and knew that I had the time to take a rescue in, since I am at home all the time. I had heard about Wyatt through the WeimList, which is a group of fun-loving, fellow Weim nuts. I went to Wyatts site and he had a female Weim. that he had to turn back into the shelter because he did not have enough room at his place to keep her. He only had two pens, that were already housing about 12 small dogs waiting to be adopted. I called him and talked to his mom and asked her to go get this gray girl for me from the shelter, since I could not make it to Wauchula by the time the shelter closed, and I also told her that I was on my way to get her. The shelter that she was in was a "kill" shelter, and I got the impression from the guy at the shelter, that I spoke to, that he was going to put her down...!!! When I went down to pick her up, I got to meet Wyatt. He has such a friendly, loving nature about him that I could understand why all the dogs flocked around him. Wyatt was the most respectful young man I have met in ages. It broke my heart to see the two small pens that housed all the dogs that he had rescued. Most of the dogs were cross breeds, but all seemed healthy and happy. I had stopped on my way down and bought two big bags of dog food, a case of canned dog food and two big box of dog cookies. I also gave him a healthy donation on top of the measly $10. that he asked for her adoption fee. He was so very grateful, I thought that I saw a tear in his eye. Wyatt wants so desperately to find homes for all the dogs that he takes in, and I am sure that the ones that are left behind at the shelter saddens him.
Wyatt has made such an impact on his community that he has received a Cert. of Appreciation from the County, City and Animal Welfare League for his work. He has had several articles written on him. They are having a Yard Sale and Bake Sale soon to help raise funds for building kennels. Some wonderful friend of Wyatts, Joan, gave him a digital camera so he can post pictures of the dogs that need adopting. He goes to Zolfo Springs Elem. and the kids last year saved and donated their change. With it 3 dogs were sponsored and saved by the kids at Zolfo. And the kids plan on continuing this effort. Wyatt is so humble about his undertakings that he cannot understand why everyone is so nice to him.
Wyatt will be featured in Woman's World, Animal Watch (put out by the ASPCA, summer issue) and Guide Post For Kids web page and Club House for Kids. He is currently in the March issue of Reader's Digest and "Your Dog" published by Tuffs University School of Veterinary Medicine. All monies from publicity goes in a Kennel Building Fund. He hopes to build a couple of kennels with concrete floors to be able to house and save more dogs.
Wyatt is a finalist in "Be Kind To Animals Kids Contest" through the Humane Society of America. He will also be in the July issue of National Geographic World Mag. He sure has made an impression on alot of people.
Wyatt started his rescues in late Dec. 2000. He could not stand the thought of so many dogs being put to sleep. He talked with Dr. Ross Hendry at Pet Care Center and he agreed to spay or neuter any of Wyatts adoptions for free. He also agreed rabies shots would only cost him $5.00. At this time Wyatt has saved well over 100 dogs and even a few cats. Wyatt started with his Christmas , tooth fairy and report card money. Most every dog that Wyatt gets has a big red "E" on it's ID card for Extermination. He sure is making a big difference in his neck of the woods.
He does ask for a donation on every dog and this helps him adopt more dogs, pay on medical bills, buy food and help the housing of these dogs. All donations need to be made to "Animal Welfare League of Hardee County, Inc. / P.O. Box 1665 / Wauchula / Florida, 33873 with a note saying it is for Wyatt's Rescues. The AWL is a non-profit organization and the proud sponsor of Wyatt's Ruff Rescues. He is a branch of the League. And all donations for Wyatt will get to him. And you will receive a receipt for tax purposes.

The wonderful gray girl I have adopted through Wyatt ended up having heartworm, which I am treating. Shame on the past owners. Her name was Cocoa and I could not understand why anyone would name a gray dog that. So I changed it to Rebecca. It took her ten seconds to respond. She was so loved starved and out of control, but through some kind, loving guidance and some Rescue Remedy she has come around wonderfully. She is the sweetest girl and that look of dispare is slowly leaving her face. They said she was two, but my vet and I agree that she is about 4. She has a overbite of about 1" but it does not take away from her great personality. She is a big girl, not fat, just big, like a male Weim, huge chest! Mama Cassie and Shyanne have adopted her too, and it is obvious that she is loved and permanent. Thank you Wyatt.....
I am so very proud to have met Wyatt, this is an amazing boy...let's all stand and give him a big "HIP-HIP-HURRAH !!!"
